Register match results
What you’ll achieve: a saved match result on one of your Friendly Matches or Trainings, and a permanent, visible level change for the players who won.
Where to start
Section titled “Where to start”Open your own event. Underneath the organizer card you’ll see a yellow prompt:
Help your players to level up! Register the match result and let the winners level up by 0.05 points.
Tap + Add Match.
A few things about that card:
- It shows on Friendly Matches and Trainings only. Tournaments use the Close Tournament flow instead, which scores every match at once.
- Only the organizer sees it. Your players don’t.
- Once you’ve added your first match, the card is replaced by the list of matches with a + New Match button in the same place.
Step 1 — Set up the line-up
Section titled “Step 1 — Set up the line-up”Tapping + Add Match opens Register Competitive Match.
-
Read the grey card at the top. It states the rules in one line: The result of these matches will affect the players’ level in the app — Winners: level up +0.05 points, Losers: only changes if player level +5.0.
-
Under Set up the teams you get Team A and Team B, each with two slots marked Free. Tap a slot to open Pick a player for this position and choose someone. Each player is listed with their username and current level.
-
Optionally tap Choose a referee and pick one more person. It’s marked Optional — skip it if you didn’t have one.
-
Under Configurations (optional) the app has already filled in the match number (Match 1, Match 2, …) and the start time. Adjust the time if the match wasn’t just now.
-
Tap Add Match.
Three more constraints worth knowing before you start:
- Matches are 2 v 2. There are exactly four court slots plus a referee. There is no 6 v 6 line-up here.
- You need at least four people on the event before the app will save a match.
- There’s no limit on how many matches you add — the numbering just keeps counting up. On a normal social session, adding six or eight matches is entirely normal.
Step 2 — Enter the result
Section titled “Step 2 — Enter the result”Saving the line-up creates an Upcoming match; it does not yet touch anybody’s level. The match now appears as a card under Your competitive matches. Tap it to open it.
You have two ways to get the score in.
Type it in afterwards
Section titled “Type it in afterwards”On the match screen, type the final score into the box next to each team. A Save result button appears as soon as you edit a score. Tap it.
Count live during the match
Section titled “Count live during the match”Tap Score Sheet and pick Simple. The phone flips to landscape and becomes a big +/− scoreboard:
- It first asks you to tap the first and second server (you can Skip this).
- Every 7 total points it asks whether it’s time to switch sides.
- At 21 with a two-point lead it offers Finish match? — Save result A : B?
Either way, once you save you get a green confirmation: Match saved — Result stored, player levels update automatically.
The rules, exactly
Section titled “The rules, exactly”This is what the app does the moment you save a result. Nothing here is an estimate — it’s the arithmetic that runs on the server.
The result has to be a real match
Section titled “The result has to be a real match”A result is rejected unless one side reached at least 14 points and won by at least 2. If it didn’t, you’ll see Match too short — This match has been too short to close it. Nobody’s level moves.
That threshold exists so a 5:2 warm-up rally can’t be farmed for level points.
What each player gets
Section titled “What each player gets”| Outcome | Level change |
|---|---|
| Won the match | +0.05 |
| Lost, and level is below 5.00 | no change |
| Lost, and level is 5.00 or above | −0.025 |
That’s the whole formula. Specifically:
- The score margin doesn’t matter. 21:19 and 21:5 are worth exactly the same.
- Your opponent’s level doesn’t matter. Beating a 6.5 player pays the same as beating a 2.0 player. (Opponent strength is weighted — but only in tournaments.)
- There’s no MVP, no bonus, no multiplier.
- Below level 5, players can only go up. This is deliberate: beginners and improvers should never be punished for playing. It means you can register results at a beginners’ session with zero risk of demotivating anyone — the worst case for a losing player is that nothing happens.
- Above 5.00, a loss costs half what a win pays, so an experienced player still climbs by winning slightly more than half their matches.
- Levels are capped between 0.01 and 10.00 and stored to three decimals.
One level per sport
Section titled “One level per sport”A player doesn’t have “a level” — they have one per sport: beach volleyball, indoor, grass, foot volley, TEQ and beach tennis are tracked separately. Your event’s sport type decides which one moves. A beach result never touches an indoor level.
Saving twice is safe
Section titled “Saving twice is safe”Result registration is idempotent. If you re-save the same match — bad signal, double tap, someone else already closed it — the level change is applied once only. You can’t accidentally inflate anyone.
What your players see
Section titled “What your players see”The moment you save, every player in the match gets an in-app notification: Match result recorded for your event.
Their level change then shows up in three places:
- Home screen — the level graph sits right under their statistics card, with a line showing their level over time.
- Profile → Volley World App - Levels — Your level per sport; tapping a sport expands its evolution graph.
- Profile → Statistics tab — the same graph, visible to their followers.
Tapping the point on the graph that corresponds to your event opens a small report card: your event’s name, the date, your club or organizer name, both teams with their avatars and levels, and the final score.
This is the part organizers underestimate. Your session stops being a Tuesday evening that disappears, and becomes a data point on someone’s curve — with your name on it.
Choosing a level range for your next event
Section titled “Choosing a level range for your next event”Once results are flowing, levels become useful for filtering who comes. When you create an event you can restrict it to a level range — see level restrictions.
The ranges most organizers use in practice:
| Label | Level range |
|---|---|
| Beginner | 0 – 4 |
| Intermediate | 4 – 6 |
| Advanced | 6 and above |
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The ”+ Add Match” card doesn’t appear
It only renders for the organizer of the event, and only on Friendly Matches and Trainings. If you were added as a co-organizer later, check that you’re set as the event’s organizer. On a tournament, use Close Tournament instead.
”You need more players”
The event has fewer than four participants with status Going. Add them to the Going list — you can add someone manually from the sign-ups section — then create the match.
”Match too short”
Neither side reached 14, or the gap was less than 2. The result won’t be stored. Register the score of a set you actually played to the end.
A player I want isn’t in the picker
Either they aren’t on the Going list, or they’re already placed in another slot in this same match (including as referee). Players are filtered out once assigned.
A player’s level didn’t move after a loss
Working as intended — they’re below level 5.00. Losses only subtract above that threshold.
