Family accounts

What you’ll achieve: your children are linked to your account, so you can book and pay for them, keep control of their accounts, and let their results count for them.

Why register your children under your account

Section titled “Why register your children under your account”

Registering a child from your Family screen is not just an administrative shortcut:

  • Their results are their own. A linked child gets a full player profile with their own Volley World App Level, their own wins and losses, and their own place in the rankings. Everything they play in the app is credited to them, not to you. (The first time you switch into a child’s account, the app asks you to run the level questionnaire for them.)
  • You do the booking and the paying. When you sign up for an event or buy something on a parent account, a Who is this for? step lets you choose yourself or a child — so one adult account handles the whole family’s sign-ups and payments.
  • You keep control of the account. As long as a child is linked to you, the account is yours to manage: you create it, you set its password, and you can unlink or delete it at any time.

If your child is too young to hold their own account where you live, the Family screen is how you register them.

  1. Open your profile and tap Family. (The list inside is headed Family Members.)
  2. Tap Add Family Member and fill in First Name and Last Name. Email and Password are optional — see the two kinds of child account below.
  3. If the email belongs to an existing account, enter that person’s Family Join Key to confirm consent, then Verify & Link.
  4. If you belong to clubs, choose which clubs to Share with, then Create or Link.

Your own Family Join Key sits at the top of the Family screen.

Your own Family Join Key is shown at the top of the screen. Whoever enters that key becomes your parent account, so only share it with someone you want to be linked to.

Which one you get depends on whether you give the child an email address:

  • With email and password — a real login. You set the password when you create the account, so you know it and you control it, and the child can sign in themselves. Later you can send them a password reset email from their card; you can’t overwrite the password directly, but you can always start a reset.
  • Without email — no login. The child gets a full player profile but no way to sign in. Everything runs through your account. This is the simplest option for young children.
  • Booking an event. On a parent account with linked children, tapping a non-tournament event opens a Family Sign Up sheet: pick who’s coming, choose how each person pays (single ticket, session pack, gift voucher, or free with a membership), and tap Confirm & Sign Up.
  • Checking out. A Who is this for? sheet lets you choose Me or a Child before paying. If a child has no level yet, you’ll be prompted to set it up first.
  • Seeing who’s signed up. On an event screen, the family avatar bubbles show each family member’s sign-up and payment status at a glance — tap a bubble to cancel that person’s spot.
  • Seeing a child’s own view. Open the drawer and tap the child’s avatar to switch into their account. You then see the app exactly as they do: their calendar, their reservations, their level. Tap the banner to switch back. (Chats aren’t accessible in this view.)

Partner Up — the tournament partner finder — is always disabled on a linked child account, whatever the child’s age. A child never appears in anyone’s swipe deck, and opening the Partner tab on their account shows a message that Playing Partner is for users 16 and older. Unlinking the account from your family lifts the restriction.

How a child’s privacy starts depends on how they joined:

  • An existing account you link as a child is switched to private automatically — its statistics, profile photo and chat close to non-followers the moment it’s linked.
  • A child account you create from scratch starts on the standard settings.

Privacy toggles are always edited by the account holder on their own Profile → Privacy screen (privacy). A child who has their own email and password can therefore adjust their own settings; a child without a login keeps the settings their account was created with.

Tap a family member’s card to Send verification email, Send password reset email, Unlink from family, or Unlink and delete account. The last two ask for your password.

Unlinking a child releases the account: it stops counting as a minor account, and the Playing Partner restriction is lifted.
