Split payment

For players. This page explains split payment for a two-person team — organizers can share it directly with participants.

What you’ll achieve: your half of the entry paid and your place held, with your partner paying their half from their own account.

What split payment is

Normally one person registers a whole team and pays the full entry fee, then sorts the money out with their partner afterwards. Split payment removes that step: each player pays their own half directly. On a two-player team with a 20 € entry, each of you pays 10 €.

Nobody is out of pocket, nobody has to chase anybody, and the team is only registered once both halves are done.

When you’ll see the option

Split payment appears only when both of these are true:

• The organizer has enabled it for that event. It is off by default, and it’s set per event — an organizer who runs ten tournaments may allow it on some and not others.
• The tournament is played in teams of exactly two. Split payment isn’t offered on formats with three or four players per team.

If you don’t see the option, register the whole team the normal way instead.

Choosing how to sign up

When split payment is on, tapping Register asks How do you want to sign up? and offers three routes:

Option	What it means
I have a partner and want to sign up the team	The traditional sign-up. You fill in the form for both players and pay the whole entry. Nothing changes for you.
I have a partner but we want to split costs	The split. You fill in only your own details, pay your half, and send your partner a link.
I don’t have a partner	The partner matcher. You browse players looking for a teammate for this tournament, and the entry is split once you match.

The first option is always there. Turning split payment on adds routes; it never takes the ordinary one away.

Splitting with a partner you already have

1. Tap Register on the tournament and choose I have a partner but we want to split costs.
2. Choose the club you represent and enter a team name — these apply to the whole team, so you set them once.
3. Fill in your own player details only. You don’t need your partner’s date of birth, ID number or anything else.
4. Pay your half of the entry fee. The amount is shown before you confirm.
5. You get an invitation link. Send it to your partner — message, email, however you normally talk to them.

Your place is held from the moment you pay. Until your partner finishes, the organizer sees your team as a pending split rather than a registered team.

Completing the other half

Your partner opens the link and lands on their own half of the registration. They see:

• A countdown showing how long is left.
• Both players’ progress — who has completed and paid, and who is still pending.
• The team name and club you already chose.
• A form for their own details, and their half of the entry to pay.

When they submit and pay, the team is complete and appears in the tournament as a normal registration.

Note

Your partner does not need a Volley World account beforehand — they can create one when they open the link. What they must not do is register separately through the normal sign-up form; that would create a second team.

The deadline, and what happens if nobody finishes

Split registrations don’t sit around half-paid. Each one has a window, and when it runs out the whole thing is undone automatically.

If the second half is never paid before the window closes:

• The registration is cancelled and the team is deleted.
• The half already paid is refunded automatically. Nobody has to ask for it.
• The place goes back into the tournament for someone else.

The organizer never has to do anything about it, and it costs their club nothing.

Caution

The automatic refund returns your payment minus the processing cost of your original payment — the cost already incurred when your payment went through. It is not the full amount you paid.

The practical consequence: only start a split when your partner actually intends to complete it. If you’re not sure, agree it with them first, or use the normal whole-team sign-up.

Troubleshooting

I don’t see the option to split

Either the organizer hasn’t enabled split payment for that event, or the tournament isn’t played in teams of two. Both are the organizer’s setting — ask them. Registering the whole team yourself still works.

My partner lost the link

Send it again from your registration — the link is reusable until it expires or the registration completes. If you generate a fresh link, any earlier one stops working.

The window ran out before my partner paid

The registration was cancelled and your half refunded automatically, less the processing cost of the original payment. You can register again from the start, as long as the tournament still has places and sign-ups are open.

My partner paid but the team still shows as pending

Payments can take a moment to confirm. If it hasn’t cleared after a few minutes, contact the organizer — they can see both halves of the registration and whether the payment arrived.

Can we split three or four ways?

No. Split payment covers a two-player team paying two halves. On larger squads, one person registers and pays for the team.
