Match days

Role requiredCoach Role requiredStaff: Member groups

What you’ll achieve: every match of the season is on the team’s calendar with its venue and meeting time; the coach knows who is available, calls up the squad in one tap, and the parents sort out lifts and duties themselves.

Prerequisites: the team has its roster. Players under age are linked to their parents through family accounts.

A team match holds everything a family needs to know: opponent, home or away, date and start time, meeting time and meeting point, the hall’s name and address, and a note from the coach.

There are two ways to fill the calendar:

  • From a league in Volley World. Open the team, go to Matches and click Import from league. Every fixture of your team in that league becomes a team match — with the venue and time from the league — and later changes to the fixtures are picked up when you import again.
  • By hand, for a league or friendly that runs outside Volley World: click + Add match and fill in the details.

Each match carries a squad limit (14 by default, as on an indoor scoresheet), which the call-up respects.

As soon as a match is on the calendar, the players see it in the Volley World app and answer Available, Not available or Maybe, with an optional note. For players under age, a parent can answer on their behalf — the coach sees who answered.

The coach sees the answers as a list per match, and as a season matrix per team: players down the side, matches across the top. Remind the rest sends a push to everyone who has not answered yet (and to their parents).

  1. Open the match and tap Call-up.
  2. Pick the squad — available players first, up to the squad limit.
  3. Tap Send call-up.

Every called-up player gets a push with the match, meeting time and meeting point — and so do their linked parents. The match card in the app shows the call-up clearly, and players who were not called up see that too, so nobody is left guessing.

For away matches the app shows a Carpool section. A parent offers a car with the number of free seats, where they leave from and when; others take a seat with one tap and can leave it again. The coach sees at a glance whether everyone in the squad has a ride.

Home matches need hands: a scorer, a delegate, line judges, someone at the bar, someone for transport. Add the duties to the match; then either assign a person to each one or leave it open and let parents or senior players claim it in the app. Each duty shows whether it is open, assigned or confirmed.

Switch on Parents’ channel on the team, and the team gets a second chat next to the players’ one: the parents of every player on the roster, the coaches and your staff. It is the place for practical messages — kit, times, lifts — without filling up the players’ chat.

Every member can mute the chat of a single team in the app’s notification settings and still receive that team’s call-ups and match changes.
