Create the league

Who does thisFederation staff

What you’ll achieve: a new league in Draft, with its season, format and sign-up rules set — the starting point for inviting clubs.

Prerequisites: access to the Competition Manager (from the Federation app). If teams should sign up and pay themselves, have a competition form ready (forms are built in the Club Manager — see Build an inscription form) and Stripe connected.

  1. In the Competition Manager, open Leagues and click Create league.
  2. The editor opens full screen: section cards on the left, a live phone preview on the right. Work through the cards below.
  3. Click Publish. The league opens on its dashboard, in Draft.
The Create league editor: section cards on the left and the live phone preview on the right
Create league uses the same editor as a tournament: section cards and a live phone preview.

Competition basics — the league’s name, description and banner.

Identity — the Season (e.g. 2026/27), the Category (e.g. Cadete) and the Tier (e.g. A2). They make up the line under the league name: League · 2026/27 · Cadete · A2 · Mixed.

Season window — Start and End of the season.

Gender & Visibility — Male, Female or Mixed, and who can see the league: Public — anybody can see the league or Associated clubs only. Only a public league has a public standings page.

Competition format

  • Rounds — Single round — 1 leg per pair or Double round — 2 legs per pair.
  • Home and away — Mirrored home / away or No home advantage.
  • Regular match format and Play-off match format — Single set, Best of 3 or Best of 5.
  • Points table — 3-2-1-0 (FIVB), 2 per win, 2-1 (win / loss) or Custom (win, tiebreak win, tiebreak loss, loss, and walkover points — a walkover loss may be negative, down to −10).

Roster — Starters on the sheet, Maximum substitutes, and Captain required.

Registration open — Maximum teams, Maximum teams per club, a Registration deadline, and what happens when it is full or closed: Put late teams on the waitlist or Reject late teams.

Team sign-up — the Sign-up form teams fill in, and whether to Charge a sign-up fee (amount per team and currency). The fee is charged on form sign-ups only; teams you add by hand are free.

Rules and access — the Rulebook (tiebreak order, set points, rest times) and Who may enter results: Referees only or Players and referees.

Where the league is listed — Province, National or International: which players find the league in the app calendar. It hides the league from nobody. For a federation account, Volley World switches the national and international listings on.

  • The league starts with registration closed. Switch it to Registration open in the league header when teams may enter.
  • Everything above can be changed later in Settings — except the number of rounds once the fixtures are generated.
  • Next: invite the clubs.
Troubleshooting
  • “Leagues are a Club PRO feature.” The organizer account is on the free or Community plan, so it can run tournaments but not a league season. Upgrade the account, or ask Volley World for a pass. Nothing was saved.
  • “The free plan is capped at 16 teams per competition.” Lower Maximum teams, or upgrade the account.
  • The number of rounds is locked. The fixtures are already generated. Delete the fixtures first if the season really has to change shape.
  • No form to pick under Team sign-up. Only competition forms can be attached to a league. Create one in the Club Manager.
