Generate the matches

Who does thisFederation staff

What you’ll achieve: every match of the regular season created at once, grouped in rounds, ready to be placed on playing days.

Prerequisites: at least two confirmed teams (Teams & sign-up), with their entry points set.

  1. Click Matches in the rail. Before anything is generated it shows Nothing generated yet with three numbers: Confirmed teams, Rounds and Matches.
  2. Click Generate matches.
  3. If no team has entry points yet, or some teams share the same points, a dialog asks first: Number them 1–n, Save ranking & generate — or Generate anyway.
  4. A few seconds later the rounds board appears.

How the draw works: generation creates every match of the regular season in one go, with the Berger circle method over the confirmed teams in entry-ranking order — round 1 pairs #1 with the last entry, #2 with the second-last. Every team plays exactly once per round. In a double round, the second leg repeats the first with the sides swapped. With an odd number of teams, one team rests in each round.

Every match starts without a playing day, a venue or a court — you place them on the playing days afterwards. A round is not a playing day; the league’s schedule exists once the matches sit on their days.

The Matches screen after generating: chips with Matches, Rounds and Unscheduled, the rounds on the left and the playing days on the right
The rounds board: rounds on the left, playing days on the right.
  • The chips on top count Matches, Rounds, Unscheduled and Played.
  • On a match card, #1 is the entry ranking and T8 the team’s registration number.
  • Each round holds every team exactly once, so a round kept together on one day means no club plays twice that day. The rounds are a proposal, not a calendar: nothing is fixed to a date yet.
  • Export the fixtures as CSV with the export button in the header.
  • Regenerate rebuilds every fixture from the confirmed teams — for example after a late team was confirmed.
  • Delete fixtures removes the whole regular season and starts from an empty board. Teams, playing days and venues are not touched.
  • Both are blocked once results are recorded: Delete the finished matches before regenerating.

Next: create the playing days and place the matches.

Troubleshooting
  • “A league needs at least two confirmed teams…” Confirm the registered teams in the Teams screen.
  • The pairings look wrong. They follow the entry ranking. Fix the entry points on Teams, then Regenerate.
  • The number of rounds can’t be changed any more. It is locked once the fixtures exist. Delete the fixtures first.
